Piles are swollen tissue collections that occur in the anal area. According to their sizes and severity, they are classified into four grades. It can be both internal and external. Internal piles are more common and can be treated easily at home. External piles form on the outside edge of the anal area and might require proper medical attention.  Piles and their classifications The most common way to detect piles is through lumps formed in the anus area. Blood starts passing while excretion and passing stool becomes a painful process. It can be generally classified into four grades.  Grade I comes with small inflammations inside the anus. This stage often goes undetected. In Grade II, the size slightly increases. It can be easily passed out during excretion but it runs a risk of returning unaided. Grade III is also known as prolapsed hemorrhoids in which the piles start appearing outside the anus. It can easily be detected in this stage and requires to be treated accordingly. Grade IV
